Home / Wk 3: Summer Camp 2020 – Rocky Hill Country Day, East Greenwich Location

Welcome, to GLC Summer Camp 2020!

“I learned that to be a leader, it’s not about your power, but your ability to empower others.” (7th grader)

Self esteem is developed through intentionally designed experiences which foster: Competence, Confidence, & Connectedness. These experiences must simultaneously challenge just beyond one’s comfort zone, celebrate specific moments and actions, and allow young people to initiate collaboratively around BIG ideas. At GLC, campers will take on outdoor challenges, ropes course elements (low and high), kayaking, swimming, youth designed games, art projects, role play, scavenger hunts, mindfulness practices, and so much more! Girls will develop their voice in an inclusive environment with other young leaders. Applying today’s research in the areas of adolescent development, adaptive leadership, experiential & inquiry-based learning, GLC participants will identify personal leadership attributes and responses. Girls will learn specific skills and language in order to develop collaborative communities and experience fulfilling relationships. As a strengths-based organization, all facilitators, teen mentors, and participants take the Stregntsh-Finder assessment tool. We use each individual’s unique results to explore leadership and communication strategies and the relevant research, putting theory into practice. Participants will design, implement and assess team challenges using their strengths while celebrating and leveraging the strengths of others. Campers will emerge prepared to collaborate effectively in diverse groups, apply their passions to enhance their communities, and lead others in a variety of settings.

This camp will also offer highly differentiated experiences for new and returning leaders. By design, we offer two divisions, rising 3rd-5th grade division and a rising 6th-8th grade division. This allows for our signature groupings, which include Big Sister-Little Sister pairings between the 2 divisions, Buddy/Mirror Pairings within each division, and our leadership lab-group format, consisting of 10-12 girls within each division. Each Lab group will have a lead facilitator, as well as a high school teen facilitator for the critical mentoring and role-modeling. Returning campers will experience additional practice leading groups, challenges, and the most important element, the debrief of micro-sessions and fun activities designed for deeper learning and reflection. We welcome girls new and returning to another transformative summer with GLC. How do you want to make a difference in 2020?
